2nd Mile is located in the Brentwood neighborhood, zip code 32206. Many years it has been murder capital of Florida.
The statistics are shocking and the needs are great! The hopelessness that is before our community is overwhelming. Our kids need help to go the extra mile. Our schools need partnerships to go the extra mile. Our families need support that will go the extra mile. Transformation is needed. God is using 2nd Mile Ministries to come along side our schools, families, and neighborhoods. The mission is to see individuals empowerd and the community transformed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our city needs 2nd Mile now!
This target area is Health Zone 1 of Jacksonville, FL, with the highest instances of:
- Family poverty
- Child poverty (birth-5)
- Little or no prenatal care
- Infant mortality
- Low-birth weight babies
- Child deaths
- Teen pregnancy
- HIV/AIDS
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Births to unwed mothers
- Single parents households
- Homicides
- High School dropouts
Further, youth in the Urban Core 32206 are at-risk from:
- Teen birth rate, 89.9/1000
- High school dropouts are three times more likely to go to prison compared to high school graduates
- The most dangerous part of the day for juvenile crime is from 3:00-6:00 p.m. after school lets out.
